Career Coaching

Career Coaching

Many of us spend a large percentage of our time at work. The reason for working is often a combination of ‘having to earn money’ and ‘seeking fulfilment’. Whatever the reason, your job needs to be right for you.

Is your career going in the right direction? Are you motivated; do you go to work with a smile on your face and a spring in your step?  Or is something not right? Is the job not challenging enough, too stressful, not meaningful, not fulfilling, are you just not enjoying yourself at work?

“Here I am,
day in and day out, staring at piles of work and a demanding team. I used to enjoy my job but for some reason I don’t anymore. Maybe I should do something else?”

Chris, 50 years old

Career Change

If you are unsatisfied with your job, then why is it so hard to make the jump to something else? Sometimes, the things holding us back aren’t our age, level of training or experience, but our own self-doubt. It is always difficult to leave your comfort zone. Is it the right thing to do? Will I be able to do something else? Is it irresponsible? Is it selfish? What will people say?

The truth is, if your job is making you unhappy, you owe yourself the chance to find something better, something more fulfilling. Career coaching can help you with establishing what it is that matters to you and therefore, what it is that you are looking for in a job. We will never tell you what to do, but we can support you through decision making and give you the time and space to talk about how you’re feeling and understand what your goals are. Whether you want to make a career change but don’t know what, or you already know what you want to do but have no idea how to get there, we can help you to come to the right decision for you and support you in making the initial steps, setting you on your way to a more fulfilling working life.

“I am 36 years old
I have a fantastic job and two lovely children. I want to do well in both my job and family life but it is hard. I am exhausted.I am becoming more and more unpleasant to the people around me. I need to do something.”

Work-Life Balance

It can be hard to fit all the responsibilities that you have plus the activities that you want to do into a day, a week or even a year. Together we will look at what matters to you most (in other words, your values) to decide what your priorities are. Based on that we will explore opportunities and find ways to achieve the right balance for you.

How it works

Time for yourself

Coaching provides dedicated time and a safe space for you to talk about what is on your mind, whether your focus is on a business career, on your personal life or both. What we strive for is a sense of self-actualisation. According to Maslow’s pyramid theory self-actualisation is when you feel that ‘you accomplish everything that you can, that you become the most that you can be’ at this stage of your life.

My coaching

In a coaching session we sit down together and identify the things in life that inspire you, give you energy and provide motivation. These are the things that we want more of and we will explore how we can achieve that. We will also record the things that hold you back and think of strategies for how to avoid such situations. We could introduce mindfulness into the sessions if that is something that works for you. It is important to me that you feel completely in charge of the coaching relationship and that you are comfortable in asking for guidance where you need it most. Everything discussed during our sessions remains strictly confidential.

Number of sessions

The number of coaching sessions needed is different for each person and you decide what you need. It could be from just a couple of sessions up to several months of coaching. Again, you lead the way.

Homework

At the end of each session we agree on homework to complete before the next session. This homework will support you in moving the action forward. It is very important to me that you commit to doing your homework.

The result

When are you ready to end your coaching sessions?

– when you are happy and clear about your goals, and;

– when you are confident about the path to achieving your goals, and;

– when you feel you can manage the challenges on the way, and;

– when you feel you are in charge of your life.
